The Varaha temple of Ramtek is a pavilion inside the Ramtek fort with a huge image of boar-avatar of Vishnu. It is approximately 2 meter high. The Varaha stands on Sesha on the floor inside a mandapa with four square pillars and flat roof on the top. The stylistic features are similar to the iconography found in Gupta era Varaha temples in north Madhya Pradesh. However, it is more damaged. Given the state as evidenced in the 19th-century publications, it is likely that there was a larger temple surrounding the Varaha.
The Ramtek Varaha temple is a Vakataka era monument. Scholars date it between c. 400 to 450 CE, or alternately sometime between 300 to 350 CE. In either case, it is one of the oldest known surviving statues of Varaha from Ancient India.
