Udasi are a sect of Sikhism, who accept asceticism and disagree with many practices of the orthodox Khalsa Sikhs. They were influential in preserving Sikhism and Sikh temples during the 18th-century persecution of Sikhs, after the death of Guru Gobind Singh. Their contributions were recognized and patronized by Ranjit Singh, the founder of Sikh Empire. They were evicted out of Sikh temples in early 20th century, during the Singh Sabha movement.
