English: The Trekvaart Haarlem-Amsterdam, known locally as the Amsterdamse trekvaart (or Haarlemse trekvaart, Dutch for "Haarlem's Pull-Canal") is a canal between the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It was dug in 1631, and is the the oldest intercity canal in the Netherlands. Passengers had to switch boats in Halfweg, because of the sluice gate there between the Haarlem Lake (Haarlemmermeer) and the Amsterdamse Ij.
