Australian white ibis mostly confine themselves to the Burke and other ephemeral rivers of Boulia Shire, rather than invading urban areas as they have in Australian cities. Urban Australian white ibis can occur in large numbers, scavenging anything edible the can find. This has earned them titles such as 'dumpster bird', 'bin chook (chicken)' and 'tip bird'.
