John Wormald Appleyard created the figures in Thornton's Arcade clock. Installed 1877, converted to automatic winding by Charles Potts & Co in 1955. It features faux jacquemarts, i.e. moving figures made to appear to strike a dummy bell, while in reality a real bell is being struck inside the clock mechanism. However in the United Kingdom, both real and faux jacquemarts are called jacquemarts.
