English: The pediment depicts the dedicatory moment before the chariot race in which Pelops of Pisa killed king Oinomaos and assumed his throne by marriage with his daughter Hippodameia, achieving the dominion for which the peninsula was named after him and founding a royal dynasty in Bronze Age Achaea. The arrangement of the fragments depends on the interpretation of Pausanias' eyewitness account of the pediment. The interpretation of the Archaeological Museum of Olympia is symmetric. Zeus in the center, Pelops on his right, and Oinomaos on his left, form a central group of three. Flanking them are one standing female on each side. Flanking the group of five are one kneeling figure on each side, one male and one female. Flanking the group of seven are one equipage of four horses on each side (chariots missing). Flanking the group of nine are two sitting males on each side. Flanking the group of 13 are one reclining male on each side, for a total of 15 figures, an axial Zeus and seven bilaterally symmetric (roughly) figures on each side, matching the symmetry of the space.
