English: To the south of Ramses II's enclosure wall around the Temple of Amun at Karnak lies the Sacred Lake (Arabic: Birket el-Mallaha / Lake of the Salt Pan), enclosed by well-preserved walls on three sides, from which steps descend to the water. On the edge of this lake is a large granite scarab statue dedicated by Amenhotep III (18th Dynasty) to the sun god Atum-Khepri.[1]
