English: As is name doesn't indicate, this Styphnolobium japonicum (syn. Sophora Japonica) comes from China. R.P. d'Incarville, , a Jesuit priest living in China, sent some seeds of an "unknown chinese tree" to Bernard de Jussieu. Planted in the 'Jardin des Plantes' in Paris in 1747, it flowered for the first time in Europe in 1779. It is the first in Europe of this species. It is now 19 meters high, with 112cm in diameter. The Pagoda Tree of the 'Museum national d'Histoire naturelle' in Paris has been labeled « Arbre Remarquable de France » (Remarkable Tree of France) in June 2001.
Français : Comme son nom ne l'indique pas, Ce Styphnolobium japonicum (syn. Sophora japonica) vient de Chine. R.P. d'Incarville, un prêtre jésuite vivant en Chine, envoya quelques graines d'un « arbre chinois inconnu » à Bernard de Jussieu. Planté au Jardin des Plantes à Paris en 1747, il fleurit pour la première fois en Europe en 1779. C'est le premier de son espèce en Europe. Il mesure à présent 19 mètres de haut, pour 112 cm de diamètre. Le Sophora du Japon du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle à Paris a reçu le label « Arbre Remarquable de France » en juin 2001.
