RRS Sir David Attenborough is a research ship owned by the Natural Environment Research Council, and will be operated by the British Antarctic Survey. Although by popular vote the vessel could have been named "Boaty McBoatface", it was launched on 14th July 2018 from Cammell Laird's shipbuilding hall in Birkenhead, Merseyside and formally named there on 26th September 2019.
