Built in 1859, this Italianate-style house at 115 East Gilman Street in Madison, Wisconsin, was constructed for Silas U. Pinney, city mayor and justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. (See the Property Record online.)
The house is clad in red brick with a hipped roof, eaves with paired brackets and dentils, two-over-two windows with decorative headers and sills, a two-story bay window on the side with bracketed cornices, a front porch with clustered square Doric columns, an architrave with triglyphs, modillions, a front pediment, and a vaulted ceiling, a rusticated stone base, and a gabled rear ell. On the northeast side of the building is a two-story red brick addition with a low-slope roof and paired windows, which was added in 1948 when the house was converted to apartments.
The house is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
