The Shiva temple of Kakapora are ruins of a large 10th-century stone temple within a peristyle complex near the banks of Jhelum river. It is located between Anantnag and Srinagar. The temple and the mandapa are gone, only the jagati, foundations of the lost temples, and walls of the peristyle with a few temple parts remain. Kakapora has been identified with ancient Khagipura because its location near the Jhelum matches the historic description. However, the Shiva temple is the only large temple ruin that has been excavated so far. The ancient town name is likely linked to Raja Khagendra.
