Shear nuts, security fittings where a nut is made in one piece with a weak shear line between two sections. One section contains the thread, the other has the hexagonal head. When tightened, the nut shears apart and the hex head is discarded. The smooth, circular remainder stays attached, but can no longer be removed. It is usually made tapered or hemispherical to make it difficult to grasp with pliers.
