English: A burst oil pipeline caused a large oil spill into the San Juan River, in southeastern Utah (Southwestern U.S.) in 1972.
- 285,000 U.S. gallons of crude oil flowed 200 miles (320 km) downstream through Utah, before being temporarily contained by an oil containment boom in Monument Valley, in October 1972.
- Later, winter floods caused much of the oil to overflow the boom into Lake Powell reservoir on the Colorado River.
- The Texas-New Mexico Pipeline Company was responsible, but five Government agencies were also involved in the clean-up in the Canyon Lands region.
