English: Samuel Blachley Webb (Wethersfield, Connecticut, December 15, 1753 - Claverack, New York on December 3, 1807), Silas Deane's stepson and private secretary; aide to General Israel Putnam; aide-de-camp to General George Washington in 1776, with the rank of lieutenant colonel; wrote the order making public the Declaration of Independence, was a prisoner-of-war in 1777-1781; promoted to brigadier general by Washington; served as grand marshall at Washington's inauguration; a merchant from 1789 until his death. His son, James Watson Webb (1802-1884) was a soldier, New York Enquirer publisher, and diplomat.
