English: Ё/ё is a Cyrillic letter in the Russian alphabet, commonly transliterated as Yo/yo, Jo/jo or Ё/ё. The Cyrillic letter Е can take an optional two dots above (dieresis/umlaut diacritic) to write the sound "yo" (as opposed to its ordinary sound "ye"), when used to write the Russian language. Whether and how often to use the two-dots diacritic can sometimes be a controversial issue.
