English: The Rostock-Land district of East Germany, renamed as Landkreis Rostock (Rostock Rural District) on 17 May 1990, was established in 1952 from the rest of the Rostock District (Kreis Rostock; est. in 1933) not redistributed to the Bad Doberan and Ribnitz-Damgarten Districts. In 1994 Rostock-Land (then called Landkreis Rostock) merged into the Bad Doberan Rural District (1952-2011). The administration was located in Rostock City, which itself was not part of the district. In 2011 the name Landkreis Rostock reappeared as the new name given to the merger of the Bad Doberan and Güstrow Rural Districts.
