English: The Aoos River begins on the southern slopes of the southern outside wall of the Calda Valley in the Natura 2000 protected area, Valia Kalnta kai Techniti Limni Aoou in western Macedonia. After a brief course in the Pindus Range it makes its way through a second protected area, Vikos-Aoos National Park. From there it flows northward to cross the Albanian border, where it becomes known as the Vjosa.
