The Rinns of Islay is a traditional name refering to the entire southwest peninsula of Islay. Only general or comprehensive pictures are included in this category; pictures of specific locations or features have their own categories under Islay.

The Rinns, or Rhinns, or historically Rinds or Rynnes, acquired a political distinction apart from the whole island by being associated with the rule of one family in the middle ages, the MacAoda, Magee, MacGee, McGee, McGhey or MacKay of Clan Aoda. In one theory they came from the family of the same name in Islandmagee, Antrim, during the Dal Riata period. Subsequently after a Viking overlordship they served as stewards for the Scottish family, MacDonald, or MacDonnell, of Clan Donald, Lords of the isles, who ruled from Finlaggan. One etymological theory of the name is that it means "peninsula."

Due to political and military contention of the clans over possession of the Rinns Estate in the times of the Stuarts, unlike the rest of Islay, which is divided into five estates, the Rinns did not descend to the present as a single estate. The Campbells acquired it by purchase from the MacDonalds but after their bankruptcy in 1848 the estate was split and sold in 1853. Today it is held by multiple owners of small estates. Some cultural unity is provided by the fact that during this entire time it remained the Parish of Kilchoman of the Scottish Church.
