The President of the junior officers' messdeck is tasked with policing conversations, and may issue symbolic sanction if required. The various attributes symbolise

  • The Gaff : a gaffe ; to whomever makes a social blunder
  • The Bucket : the fount of knowledge ; to whomever makes an excessive display of culture
  • The Wall : the divide between public and private lifes ; to whomever mentions the private life of a colleague
  • The Ladder : carreer ; to whomever talks at length of promotion or hierarchy
  • The Hammer : stupidity of stubborness; to whomever proves incapable or unwilling to understand a point
  • The dustpan and brush : introspection ("clean up one's own backyard") ; to whomever complains of failings that they themselve feature
  • The Stretcher : ill health ; to whomever is often sick or tired, or is promoted and switches to the senior officiers messdeck
  • The Coffin : idea box, opened on each 1st of November, whenever a member of the messdeck is replaced, or when the President is promoted.
