English: The prytaneion was the administrative center of officials termed the prytaneis. In Olympia the ruins are in the north of the park near the entrance just under Kronion Hill, coincidentally near the Museum of the History of the Excavation of Olympia, formerly the Ephoreion of Olympia, the administrative center from which the ephors governed the excavation. Ephors are modern Greek officials. The current Ephoreion is a few buildings to the west. The Prytaneion included the hearth of Hestia where the fire was kept burning eternally, a concept now culturally widespread.
