223 East Houston Street at the corner of Essex Street in the Lower East Side neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1920 for the Provident Loan Society of New York. It was owned for a time by the artist Jasper Johns, who used it as studio and living space. Today it is Element night club and the Vault lounge.
