About 15,000 historical prints (ca. 1700-1900) created to document geographic locations or popular subjects and sometimes used for advertising and educational purposes. Most are by American printmakers (e.g., Baillie, Currier & Ives, Sachse & Co.), but publishers in many other countries are also represented (e.g., Antonio Vanegas Arroyo). Subjects vary widely, from city and harbor views, street scenes, and manufacturing plants to genre scenes, historical events, religious iconography and portraits. Both tif and jpg format versions of the same scans are included in this category. When adding categories the jpg version is preferred for Wikimedia projects due to size and more accurate rendering of thumbnail versions. To create cropped versions or other derived images, the tifs are normally significantly higher resolution as a starting point. Any derived versions should be created as new jpgs linking back to the original.

Most of the images in this collection were uploaded in one batch upload project, refer to User:Fæ/LOC#Popular Graphic Arts (pga).
