English: The Western concert flute or C flute or flute is a transverse (side-blown) woodwind instrument made of metal or wood. The dimensions and key system of the modern western concert flute and its close relatives are almost completely the work of Theobald Boehm. It is the most common variant of the flute.
Nederlands: De dwarsfluit - ook concertfluit, c-fluit, böhmfluit of meestal fluit genoemd - is een houtblaasinstrument dat zijdelings van de buis wordt aangeblazen. De afmetingen en het kleppensysteem van de moderne fluit zijn nagenoeg geheel ontwikkeld door Theobald Boehm. Naast de c-fluit kennen we nog de piccolo,de altfluit en basfluit.
