English: There were at least four prior bridges more or less along the lines of Seattle's present-day Spokane Street Bridge and West Seattle Bridge.
- c. 1900 "swinging gate" bridge that carried a water main
- c. 1911 swing bridge, also carried a water main (pipes on either side)
- c. 1918 swing bridge
- 1924 bascule bridge (the West Spokane Street Bridge), critically damaged when the freighter Chavez collided with it in 1978, and replaced with the West Seattle Bridge in 1984, which connects with the Spokane Street Viaduct.
