Oksana Balandina is a 23-year-old ukrainian paediatric nurse, who, "after venturing out to collect some supplies for elderly neighbours on their street in Lysychansk, an east Ukrainian town on the frontline of the war with Russia", "lost both her legs and four fingers on one hand in a mine explosion in March" 2022. While in the hospital she married Viktor Vasyliv and Oksana posted a video to TikTok of them dancing as "her husband gently lifted his bride, dressed in white, and held her tight as she buried her face in his shoulder and they swayed to tinny music playing on a laptop." This video went viral and for its impact a uproar of worlwide support grew.
