Ningyōburi 人形振り is a style of kabuki acting where the actor imitates the exaggerated motions of a puppet. Often, one or two actors as puppeteers appear behind the main actor and mime controlling that actor's movements. These puppeteers often dress in black. This technique is mostly used in kabuki plays derived from puppet theater plays, for example, Yaoya Oshichi.
