English: Nihti (Knekten in Swedish) is an island in Helsinki, Finland. It belongs to the Sompasaari quarter but is separated with a canal (Nihdinkanava) constructed in 2020s, thus making an island of its own. Before 1960s both of them were natural islands: Nihti in its natural state can be seen on the in this picture. In the 1960s Nihti (as well as Sompasaari) was connected to the mainland as part of the Sörnäinen Harbour. Ever since the harbour was disestablished and moved to Vuosaari in 2008, the quarter has been under construction in order to become a new major residential area. Both islands are now once again separated from the mainland with canals. Nihti, as the southern part of the quarter, is aimed to be completed in 2030. In the future the island will also serve as a route within the Crown Bridges tramway.
Suomi: Nihti, Helsinki. Saari, joka kuuluu Sompasaaren osa-alueeseen, mutta on erotettu kanavalla pohjoisemmasta Sompasaaresta. Entinen satama-alue, josta on rakentumassa asuinalue tuhansille ihmisille vuoteen 2030 mennessä.
