English: New Ukrainian bread (Новый украинский хлеб) is a trademark of low-cost wheat-with-rye bread sold in Russia through Pyatyorochka store chain. Ukrainian bread (without "new") and Darnitsky bread (after Darnitsia) in Russia are generic, unprotected names. The New Ukrainian bread is the cheapest (probably subsidized) bread in Moscow in 2024, selling for around 20-25 US or Euro cents for a 650-gram loaf. It is a heavy, sour, unappetizing gray bread that is perfectly palatable but can not be eaten in excess (as is the case with tasty soft breads).
