The New Patriotic Party (NPP) was founded 1992 as nationalist reform movement by supporters of the former Prime Minister of Ghana, Kofi Abrefa Busia (Second Republic). The movement is classified as liberal-democratic and liberal-conservative center-right party. Aside of that one's seeing oneself in the tradition of J. B. Danquah and his party, the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), which existed in the former British colony Gold Coast 1947-1951.
