"The National Exchange Bank building was constructed after the previous structure on the property was torn down in 1865. The Bank was established in December of 1864. In 1873, William G. Deshler was its president and it was the only United States depository in Columbus. The bank liquidated several years before 1898. The building, located on the southwest corner of South High Street and West State Street, also housed the Franklin Insurance Company." - https://digital-collections.columbuslibrary.org/digital/collection/ohio/id/22047/rec/23
