The Narasimha Shila is a massive slab of rock found on the extreme southwest corner of the Udayagiri caves site, about a kilometer from the ASI ticketing office.
The massive monolithic stone (shila) has a large 6th-century relief of Narasimha-Vishnu avatar. He is depicted as holding the asura Hiranyakasyapa in his lap and killing the demon. It is closer to Betwa river dock and historic pilgrim road, has served as a interim stopping point for Hindu pilgrims visiting the Udayagiri site. It continues to be a popular stopping point on Aksaya Navami in the month of Kartika – a regional festival.
