English: A nameplate identifies and displays a person or product's name (and e.g. the model number in case of objects), and often provides further detailed information. Nameplates are usually shaped as rectangles but are also seen in other shapes. Nameplates primarily serve an informative function or a commercial role - such as in a shop, where nameplates are mounted on products to identify the brand. On machinery, electric appliances or the like, they are often the only means with which the item can be identified even after decades.

B. die Modellnummer bei Produkten) und enthält oft weitere detaillierte Informationen. Namensschilder haben normalerweise die Form von Rechtecken, existieren aber auch in anderer Form. Namensschilder dienen in erster Linie einer informativen oder einer kommerziellen Funktion – beispielsweise in einem Geschäft, wo Schilder an Produkten angebracht werden, um Marke und Modell zu identifizieren. An Maschinen, Elektrogeräten oder ähnlichem sind sie oft das einzige Mittel, mit dem der Gegenstand auch noch nach Jahrzehnten identifiziert werden kann.
