English: The 400 series (2-head model 480 and three-head 481 and 482) was Nakamichi's entry-level line, part of the "second generation" of Nakamichi decks. The three original models were made into 1981; then the Dolby C emerged and the company hastily incorporated it into the existing models. They were, quite likely, already slated for retirement (the third generation - Dragon et al. - was already in the works) - but the company had to do someting; decks with only Dolby B didn't sell well anymore. So they slapped Dolby C, manual bias control and LED meters onto all three models, creating new models 480Z, 481Z, 482Z. These held the fort until the rollout of the "third generation" models in 1982-1984.
