NMT is an abbrivation for Nordisk mobiltelefoni (Nordic Mobile Telephony), a standard and protocol for mobile networks developed in Norway (Telenor) and Sweden (Ericsson), and launched in 1981. NMT mobile networks were built in Scandinavia, usually in the 450 MHz band. In the early 1990s, the standard was replaced by GSM.
