English: The mushroom colouration is a relatively newly discovered dilution that emerged in Shetland Ponies. It is inherited recessively and only expresses on chestnut base coats, rendering the normally reddish browns into duller tones reminiscent of dead grass, mushroom caps, and such. It can resemble silver dapple black, but the horse will test non-eumelanistic; furthermore, the silver factor is not known in the breed.
