The name of this category is a "bilingual tautological expression" as "tepe" is Turkish for the English "mount" (generally translated as "hill", on at least one map its summit is indicated as Akdağ at 1324 meters. Dağ being mountain). Ak is white, the colour of the higher reaches of this table hill (mesa) that is at the heart of the most touristic part of Cappadocia. At its SW side there is Göreme, at SE Ortahisar, to the west Çavuşin, to the north Paşa Bağları and Zelve. Most people visiting the region will see it from a distance, or maybe from a balloon. Hardly anyone goes up on one of its few ascents let alone walk to another side. Views from it are magnificent.
