English: The first generation trains on the Tyne and Wear Metro are comprised of two two-car electric multiple units. The cars in each unit are permanently connected and allow free movement between them. They draw their power via a pantograph from an overhead cantenary wire. Uniquely in Great Britain they use a 1500-volt DC current.
