Meitei cinema, often popularly known as Maniwood as well as Manipuri cinema, is the Meitei language (Manipuri language) film industry based in Imphal, the metropolis of Manipur. The popular term "Maniwood", used to refer to mainstream Meitei language cinema, is a portmanteau of "Manipur" and "Hollywood". In addition to "Maniwood", another term "Kangleiwood" is also used to refer to the same film industry. "Kangleiwood" is a portmanteau of "Kangleipak" (ancient name of Manipur) and "Hollywood". It is a part of the larger Indian cinema—the world's largest by number of feature films produced, along with the Bollywood cinema, the South Indian cinemas and other Indian film industries.
