English: Mathew H. Ahmann (1931–2001) was the founder and director of the Chicago-based National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice. He was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota and died of cancer in Washington D.C. on December 31, 2001^{[ref 1]} In 1963, he organized the National Conference on Religion and Race in Chicago, an event that "established the civil rights movement as a moral cause", and was one of the organizers of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.^{[ref 1]}
