English: In July 1876, Maria Spelterini crossed the Niagara Rapids on a tightrope. She performed the stunt various times that month as spectators lined the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge, on July 8 for the US centennial, on July 12 with peach baskets on her feet, on July 19 with a blindfold, on July 22 with her ankles and wrists manacled, and on July 27.
