English: Madeleine Frances Jaffray, one of ten nurses sent to France in 1915 by the Canadian National Nursing Association to join the French Flag Nursing Corps. Worked in a military hospital near Bordeaux and then in a front-line mobile ambulance unit in Adinkerke, Belgium. In recognition of her service, was awarded the Croix de Guerre with star, becoming the first Canadian woman to receive such honor.
