lu (鯥) or luyu (鯥魚), an ox-like fish with wings, having feathers in the armpit (魼[=胠]), and a serpent-like tail.
It bellowed like a yak (yu 畱, i.e. humped cow 瘤牛).[1] It is regarded as living on the slopes or hills (陵),[1] cf. the lingyu (陵魚) or "hill-fish".
From the Nan shan jing ("Classic of Southern Mountains"), original text:
柢山,多水無草木有魚焉其狀如牛陵居虵尾有翼其羽在魼[=胠]下,其音如畱牛[=瘤牛], 其名曰鯥, 冬死而夏生, 食之無腫疾
