English: Lord Shaftesbury, was a steel-hulled four-masted ship built in 1888 by Whitehaven Shipbuilding Co., Whitehaven for J. Herron & Co., Liverpool. Her dimensions were length: 293.3 ft (89.3 m); width: 42.7 ft (13 m); depth: 24 ft (731.5 cm) and tonnage: 2,341 GRT and 2,273 NRT. She was a sister ship to the four-masted ship Galgate. Rigged with royal sails over double top and topgallant sails. Re-rigged as a barque by 1905. 1911 sold to A.P. Rolph, Liverpool, and renamed Golden Gate. 1914 transferred to J. Rolph, San Francisco. Either broken up at Alameda, CA in 1934,[1] or abandoned in 1941.[2]
