From "The Nemrud Dağ Project: first interim report": "Goell has reconstructed a stepped structure in tuffit; the so-called fire altar." Goell reported the presence of various tuffit animals on the terrace. She reconstructed the presence of two pairs of an eagle and a lion on or at the so-called fire altar. Nowadays a lion (186 cm H) standing next to the stepped structure and fragments of two eagles along the slope rest from this adornment. This is that lion, with the altar on some pictures. From the The Nemrud Dağ Project: first interim report: "The idea of an altar may well have been inspired by a - not written - comparison with the Zeus altar at Pergamon or other monumental examples of this era." They think it may well be wrong.
