The Lichtenwalner Motor Company was founded by Norton Lichtenwalner who was an Allentown native and a 1905 graduate of Allentown High School. Lichtenwalner had started in business in New York City, then came to Allentown in 1915, buying out the estate of the J. M. Grimley furniture company, changing it to Lictenwalner Furniture. He sold his furniture interests when he opened his car dealership, purchasing the Penn Motor Company at 1313-1315 Linden Street in April 1922. Penn Motors sold Apperson and Franklin automobiles, and had opened in 1920. With the purchase, the dealership name was changed to Lichtenwalner Motor Company, and began selling Peerless, Marmon and Hupmobile Automobiles. In April 1924, Lichtenwalner became a Packard dealership. Prior to this, Packards had only been sold in Bethlehem beginning in 1920.

In November 1929, Lichtenwalner Motors moved to a larger location at 206-212 East Hamilton Street. In January 1932 the salesroom temporally moved to the Traylor Garage at Fulton and Walnut Streets due to the closure of the Hamilton Street Bridge. However it maintained it's service and repair facilities in East Allentown' the showroom returned in April. In June 1932, the dealership began to sell Chrysler and Plymouth automobiles, however the dealership still sold Packards. This consolidation was made to the effects of the Great Depression, which had closed other dealerships due to lack of sales.

Lichtenwalner Motors closed its doors in December 1932 when Norton Lichtenwalner sold the dealership. It became Teffy-Seltz Company, selling Rockne automobiles, a division of Studebaker. The Allentown Packard dealership was taken over by Fenstermacher & Rems in March 1933.

Subsequently, Lichtenwalner entered politics, and later became an investment banker. He passed in May 1960.
