History

The ship Leonardo (A 5301) is a Coastal Reserch vessel active in the NATO throught the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation regarding acoustic and environmental fields. The unit was delivered to NATO Underwater Research Centre in December 2002 and since October 2013 is operationally reporting to CINCNAV. In 2010 she took part in the research on the communications between sea-lions in the Ligurian Sea; in 2011 and 2012 conducted the measuring of the sea floor deformation and survey of hydrocarbons on seabed; in 2013 was involved in the project regarding underwater wireless communications network in order to replace the telephone cables laid on the ocean sea floor.
