- Significance: It is located in the Pearl Harbor National Historic Landmark. It is associated with the expansion of facilities at the Navy Yard in the 1930s, in particular with the repair basins Facility Nos. B-11-B-22. This latrine's direct proximity to the repair basins and these facilities allowed it to serve the growing number of personnel in that area of the shipyard. Facility 179 is of a distinctive type and period of construction that is synonymous with two other latrines, Facilities 134 & 136. All three are a simplified Art Moderns style common to the architecture produced during the New Deal era under F.D. Roosevelt administration.
