Timur died in 1405. The first known portraits of Timur date to 1436, when his grandson Ibrahim Sultan (who had known his grandfather Timur until the age of 10), commissioned the 1436 Zafarnama, a panageric work with numerous depictions of Timur, but also a few depictions of his queen Saray Mulk Khanum and his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah. A second Zafarnama in known, the Zafarnama of Sultan Husayn, from his great-great-grandson Husayn Bayqara, dated to 1467–8. Several contemporary portraits of Timurs descendants are also known throughout the 15th century, such as those of Husayn Bayqara himself.
