Description

English: The model for this work was Dina Vierny. According to John Rewald, Maillol developed the pose for the monument by cutting up a plaster model he had developed for his 1912 monument to Cézanne and subtly rearranging the parts. The artist used the plaster cast for this monument to create another work without the billowing drapery entitled L'Air.

Object history

English: Installed in the Jardin Royal, Toulouse, in 1948. Removed in 1993 due to repeated vandalism. After being repaired it was displayed in the Musée des Abattoirs and then was returned to storage. In 2018 it was moved to the Envol des Pionniers, an aviation museum in the Toulouse suburb of Montaudran where it is on display.
