English: Courtyard entrance to the Katholokon, or main church. The inscription from the ruins of ancient Itanus is the dark stone slab mounted next to the door. Sufficient magnification will reveal the closely packed script. Originally used as a tombstone in the cemetary it was made into an altar in the Chapel of Timios Stavros there and then incorporated into the entrance of the main church following the 1834 suggestion of the English traveller R. Pashley.
